My meditation journey began as a teenager, through reading the Dalai Lama’s teachings while traveling through Buddhist Asia. I was amazed to find I could alter my lived experience of the world and my daily interactions with others through a consistent practice of quietening my mind and observing my thoughts as they arose. This led me into a period of self-study, where I researched on Neuroplasticity and the concept of re-wiring our ‘fixed’ mental and emotional states through the practice of actively reprogramming our thought habits over time, interrupting the familiar neural pathways carved out by our previous life experience.

My exploration into neuroscience led me, again and again, back to meditation, as I read about countless studies revealing the positive impact that a regular meditation practice can have on one’s wellbeing, altering our neurological conditioning over time.

My research and fascination in this field eventually led me to the University of Cambridge, where I studied a post-graduate degree in Philosophy of Mind. Meanwhile, outside of academia, I had discovered the silent meditation retreat, a space where I continue to seek intermittent refuge from my fast-paced London life to emerge a lighter and infinitely happier version of myself. Mindfulness practice fast became my gateway to inner tranquility.

Today, meditation is at the core of my self-care; my ‘mental hygiene’ routine and as vital a part of my wellbeing as my dental hygiene routine.

Why meditate?

I’ve experienced the full spectrum of highs and lows in my mental-wellbeing throughout my life. After my now twenty-year relationship with meditation and my own mental health, I have absolute clarity that this practice has sustained me, bringing a sense of space and underlying peace to even the most difficult life experiences.

After one such experience, while nursing my mother through terminal cancer at her home during the Covid-19 pandemic, I decided it was time to make this practice a part of my daily offering to the world. I trained to become a meditation teacher in the months that followed, graduating just before my son was born a year later. Today, I teach meditation both online and in person, and I love nothing more than sharing this vital and deeply rewarding practice with others.

What to expect?

If you have never tried meditation before, you are the perfect student! Many people have picked up mistaken ideas about meditation and undoing the work of a misguided practice is something I have to do regularly. Those who are new to the concept of meditation tend to pick it up quickly and with less hang ups when we can start from scratch together with the correct guidance.

I approach meditation from a modern, secular angle, though I have learnt the most from, and have utmost respect for, the ancient traditions that have informed our modern understanding of Mindfulness and Transcendent states today. Practices which we now know transform the neurochemical make-up of monks who devote their lives to them.

Whether you’re working 1-1 with me or attending a group class, online or in person, you can expect a friendly and lighthearted approach. Not taking ourselves too seriously is integral to successful practice. I keep guidance clear and simple and I love to answer questions at the end of a class.
